Course Description
The scene of one of the most remarkable moments in Open history, the legendary Ailsa Course is complemented by the dynamic challenges of the new Kintyre Championship Course.
Designed by MacKenzie Ross, the 6976 yard, par 70, SSS 75 Ailsa Course is considered one of the world's top 20 links courses. The first three holes can be a tough challenge with the wind blowing, the sea being only 11 miles away. The course follows the shoreline from the 4th to the 11 hole, the 5th to the 8th are framed by dunes and the 9th, 10th and 11th are flanked by craggy rocks. The 9th hole is considered the course's trademark, the remote tee is set on a rocky premonitory on the edge of the sea, requiring a drive across the corner of the bay allowing a glimpse of the Bruce's castle.
Designed by Donald Steel, the 6853 yard par 72, SSS 73 Kintyre Course is links golf at its best. Undulating greens, glorious fairways, magnificent ocean holes, all with stunning views of Kintyre, Arran and the famous Turnberry lighthouse. The short ascent from the 7th green provides a breathtaking view. The 8th, regarded as the Kintyre's signature hole involves a drive from an elevated tee towards the sea, and an unforgettable blind second shot to the green set in the gully by the rocks.
The club house has changing facilities, and caters for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and also has a bar. The club shop can arrange for club, trolley and buggy hire (the latter for the Kintyre course only), as well as the club professional providing tuition. Facilities include a driving range, pitching and putting green. 1 hour from Glasgow International Airport and 30 minutes from Glasgow Prestwick International Airport.
