Course Description
Hotel Byblos Andaluz is located halfway between Malaga International Airport and Marbella. Close to the Mediterranean Coast in the heart of Andalucia, the hotel is built in the purest Andalusian tradition. The hotel offer 144 deluxe mini suites and suites, exquisite gastronomy, two 18 hole golf courses, relaxtion facilities featuring a Spa-Thalassotherapy Centre, a "La Prairie" beauty centre, fitness centre, 3 swimming pools and 4 tennis courts. Designed by Robert Trent Jones in 1976, the Mijas Golf Club offers some of the best golfing on the Costa del Sol. The two 18 hole golf courses, the par 72 Los Olivos at 5545 metres and the par 71 Los Lagos at 5907 metres, are both of the highest international standard and are located only 500 metres from the Hotel Byblos Andaluz. Los Lagos Course - built in the mid 1970s is a flat, long championship course with wide fairways, water hazards and large greens. Renovated for its silver anniversary, the course is known for its nine hole hazards. The tees for the 10th and 11th holes are on top of a hill, the 10th is the shortest hole and the 13th is a par 5 hole in a sharp downward slope. Long hitters will particularly enjoy this course, it also accommodates those with a slice. The wide fairways with little rough makes this a very popular course. There is also a driving range and putting green on site for those wishing to practice. Los Olivos Course - built by Cabell Robinson and opened in 1984. Named after the olive trees that line the fairways, it is a tighter, shorter and tougher course than the Los Lagos. Since being renovated in 2001, it now has smaller elevated greens in the nearby hills with par 3s, 4s and 5s respectively. The greens have been almost doubled in size, and the area around the lake including the 6th, 7th, 8th and 18th holes have been renovated and delimited by white stones. The 4th hole, which curves abruptly to the right, is now a straight hole. The par 3 5th hole has been totally removed. The par 4 13th hole has been raised allowing you to see the green from the tee. The par 3 14th hole has new elevated tees and a renovated green with new bunkers, and is a spectacular hole with magnificent panoramic views from the raised tees. When playing this course you will see Trent Jones' trademark in the course design with foothills, water traps, large and twisted bunkers and quick greens with many subtle slopes testing the best. The club professional can always help with further tuition, but look out for the 8th hole, the water hazard cuts into the green at the front and left centre, while bunkers guard the right side of the green. There is also a club house providing changing facilities as well as breakfast, lunch, dinner and a bar. Club/buggy/trolley hire is available at the club shop.
