The Royal Troon Golf Club was founded in 1878 by golf enthusiasts and soon outgrew its local reputation and is widely accepted as the most demanding of any Course on the Championship rota. In the Centenary Year, 1978, the Club was proud to receive the Royal Accolade and, to date, is the most recent Club to be so honoured.
